Exmouth LETS uses a virtual currency, called the Cockle. All services are priced at the rate of 10 Cockles per hour. For the purposes of pricing goods, 1 Cockle can be regarded as the rough equivalent of £1. To help you start trading, new members are credited with 5 Cockles. Your account does not need to be in credit for you to trade.








My trading offer or request has been declined…

Sorry about that. The other member may have already sourced what they need, or this may not be a convenient time for them to trade. Why not check the Directory to see if another member is looking for what you are offering? You can also amend your profile details to request the service. And soon you’ll be able to flag up what you’re looking for on the Noticeboard section.


My transaction is with a member who is ‘offline’. What does this mean, and what do I do?

Some Exmouth LETS members do not have internet access and cannot update their accounts. They are on the old paper system, using Cockle cheques. Please follow the step-by-step guide to offline trading on the Help page.


I’ve completed an offline transaction, and have been given a Cockles cheque. What do I do with it?

Exmouth LETS admin will need to process the transaction for both members. Please send the cheque - or drop it round - to: Exmouth LETS, c/o 9 Clarence Road, Exmouth, Devon, EX8 1LE. Alternatively you can drop it into the LETS/TTE stall at the Exmouth Farmers Market (second Wednesday of each month at The Strand). Please let us know what the Cockles cheque was for, membership numbers of both parties and when the transaction took place. You will receive email confirmation and your new balance once the transaction has been processed. We will also notify the offline member and to give them their new Cockle balance.


Are there any tips to good trading?

Yes, you’ll find Useful Trading Tips in the Print Downloads section of the Members’ Area. You may also find it useful to print out a copy of the Directory to keep by your phone


What is a trading event?

It’s a regular event where members can meet and trade. Not only is it one of the best ways to trade, it’s also an excellent way of new members getting to know those already on the system. So have a look at the Diary Dates for the next trading event, and come along! You’ll find we’re a very friendly lot!


I’ve followed all the Help advice on the site, but I’ve got stuck. What do I do?

Click the Contact Us tab on the website, fill in the message section with details of the problem, submit it, and we’ll come back to you. And if the website’s misbehaving, you can use the Report a Problem link at bottom right to do just that.
